Personality: Elysa loves going shopping with her best friend Kaileen and buying sparkly clothes. “Fashion, must have fashion!” is her motto and she does not understand why people should give up fashion for logic. Even when going swimming (her second favorite activity), she insists on wearing a glittery bikini. Elysa’s sense of humor is not one to be overlooked, either. When Caesar Flickerman complimented Elysa on her outfit, she grinned and told him that she was definitely dressed to “kill”. While on the outside her personality may seem very sparkly and shallow, Elysa can be very cunning and smart as well. It was her last-minute clever idea that made her a victor of The Hunger Games.
Character background:Elysa was born in district 4 in a small hospital located somewhere on district 4’s huge beach. Her parents, Tremayne Colbert and Ember Colbert, were both very wealthy, and her father owned a seafood business which supplied the Capitol with their fish, shrimp, and clams. Growing up as an only child in a family where money was plentiful guaranteed that Elysa would never go hungry. She was raised much like a kid in the Capitol, with all the extravagant things she wanted to buy. When Elysa met Kaileen at career tribute training many years ago, she was surprised that the reason why Kaileen was training was so that she could win the money and support her family. Elysa only wanted to win for the fame and the extra “shopping money” she would get. It was only when Kaileen explained to her that not all families were as privileged as hers was that she understood. She knew nothing of thirst, and The Hunger Games was the only time that she ever experienced the feeling that she did not have enough to live by and that she had to provide for herself. Only intensive career tribute training had saved Elysa from near death.
